Bring your own songs, someone else’s, or none yet. We can write, produce, record and arrange in just about any style — in the studio or on stage.
Pre-production
The work that happens before you’re in the studio: rehearsal, arrangement, taking a song apart and rebuilding it with the best lyrics, parts and drums. Bands that put the time in here usually save money once tracking starts. It’s common to bring in a producer or songwriter at this stage — they specialise in getting the most out of a song.
Tracking
Every instrument is recorded to its own track, so a part can be turned up, replaced or fixed later without touching the rest. Bands can play together live, or one at a time to a click track that keeps everyone at a steady tempo, wearing headphones so the mics don’t pick up the playback.
We can also build a track from scratch with live and programmed instruments — useful for solo artists — and we produce beats for hip-hop, R&B and dance projects.
Live capture
Concerts, recorded where they happen. Our mobile rig has captured eTV’s Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Unplugged series and three seasons of Rockspaaider, 32 tracks at a time, along with live concerts for CD and DVD release. It can also run the final mix for a livestream from almost any location.
Players, when you need them
A large network of session musicians across South Africa and abroad, and a pool of beat makers for hip-hop, R&B and other urban styles. Whatever the part, we can find someone to play it.
Two rooms
One Big Room Modern is our home base. One Big Room Vintage, less than a kilometre away, has the space for choirs, ensembles and a Yamaha C5 grand piano.
